New Sweatdrop Anthology! ^_^

May. 21st, 2010 | 11:44 am
mood: exhausted exhausted

We've been so excited about announcing this and it's finally time! Blurb for you:

Sweatdrop Studios presents you with a collection of tales adapted from stories well-loved and time-tested. Contained within these pages you'll find fables from near and far; some will shock, some will surprise and some will make you smile. Sweatdrop's artists have scoured the globe for stories that have inspired and touched them in some way, and we hope that they'll do the same for you.

Magic, greed, love, friendship, loss and punishment – fairytales have always encompassed a haunting mix of the fantastical and macabre. This anthology, perfect for bed-time reading, will capture all of that and more in Sweatdrop’s expected variety of styles and approaches; and the group are thrilled to be joined in this special book by guest creator Svetlana Chmakova(NightSchool/Dramacon).

Featuring Svetlana Chmakova, Emma Vieceli, Joanna Zhou, Irina Richards, Rebecca Burgess, Marubelle Sinclaire, Sonia Leong & Faye Yong.

We're launching the book at the London MCM Expo this May - next weekend, wooooo! And Svet will be with us at the show to see our baby's launch ^_^
We hope you're as excited as we are about it.

Events in the next few weeks ^_^

May. 19th, 2010 | 02:08 pm

Wow - it's con season again! So where am I over the next few weekends?

22nd/23rd May - Bristol Comic Expo - Always good fun and great company. You should be able to find me hanging around the bar (drinking tea!) or at the SelfMadeHero stand. On the Sunday I'll be hosting a podcast panel at the Mercure, which should be a laugh, so come and check that out! ^_^

29th/30th May - London MCM Expo - Always an exhausting event for me as I also manage the ComicVillage there. As always, the area is 'by comickers for comickers' and is all about promoting mixing and mingling between all styles and all levels. This one is no exception and will be immense fun. I'll be running around like a mad person, but you should catch me at the Sweatdrop area (promoting a new something!), the SelfMadeHero stand or at the ComicVillage info desk.

5th/6th June - 2D Watch out, Ireland, I'm coming your way! I'll be attending the Derry 2D comic festival as a guest, so feel free to come bug me for sketches or a chat ^_^

That'll do for now, I think. I hope to see some of you at these shows. Don't be a stranger ^_^

Woah - LiveJournal!!!

Apr. 11th, 2010 | 05:56 pm

Dudes, how have you been? I realise I've been LAME and haven't posted so much as an update here in ages - sorry!

Partly this was due to recovering from a touch of the evil RSI (typing is the worst thing); partly it's workload...with a touch of 'I'm TIRED' in there too XD
How the devil are you all?

It's been that long I'm not even sure what to write.

I guess I should drop a reminder to head to your local comic shop and order issue #3 of Girl Comics (out in May) if you want to witness my first ever foray into Marvel's universe. If not for me, do it for the Jo Chen cover and the other marvellous talent contained within! ^_^ It times nicely with May Expo and Bristol, weee!

In other work-related news, I'm 30 pages in on my Oni Press project and man, it's fun! you guys are going to love it, I hope. I've been working together with Nunzio and Christina (the writers) to really come up with some fun storyline that I cannot WAIT to draw! With a bit of luck and motivation, you may hear more about the project around SDCC time!
I'm starting work on the cover of my Penguin books project and, again, I cannot wait to get dug into this gig. It's going to be huge amounts of fun to draw!
I'm also working on a few bits for France still...not the country in general, but to be releases IN France, you know, haha ^_~
And I've been pulling together the ComicVillage for this May's MCM Expo with the help of WeAreWordsAndPictures' Matthew Sheret. It's going to be a blast! So many awesome creators coming! Check out the list ^_^

So I'm madly busy and it's all good.

I've managed to fit in a few outings, including the launches of the first two DFC Library books: Dave Shelton's Good Dog Bad Dog and Ben Haggarty and Adam Brockbank's Mezolith. Both look stunning and I urge you to rush out and pick up these tastes of what British Comics can be! And look out for Kate Brown's delicious Spider Moon, coming soon!
We managed to get a gang photo of the DFC creators who made it to the Mezolith Launch, courtesy of the ever-wonderful Sarah McIntyre:

(ignore how drunk I look XD)
Not all of us by a long shot, but we certainly got a burst of DFC nostalgia and hope for what's to come. If these first wave DFCLibrary books do well, we'll see many more stories in the format - including my ickle Violet - so do support this fab venture if you can. ^_^
You can catch up with the DFC team and their shennanigans here:

I also made it along to the engagement do for the UK Comics' newest Mr and Mrs to be, Fehed Said and Faye Yong.

I'm so happy for the pair of them!! Congratulations again, guys!!

I've been workshopping a bit, with two trips last week: One to Leeds Travelling Man where I met some awesome young people and saw some amazing talent - See you guys at Thought Bubble in November!

And One huge session in maidstone at the Arts Centre, where Morag Lewis and I spent a great day with the group there, creating work to go up alongside the Sweatdrop pieces in exhibition at the Hazlitt already! If you're in the area, do drop in and see what the group got up to, as well as the pretty Sweatdrop pieces in there ^_^
I took some piccies (shock horror for me!) and heeerre they are!
First, Katie - one of the workshoppers who drew this pic of me, yay!, Our flyer and the note board showing the SD artists and the names of the young artists who will also be exhibiting with us.

and the room itself:

It's rather funky, so head along if you can!

Next up: Bristol Comic con and the May expo, and some workshops in between....and work - lots of work!! *tea time!*

Love you all! XXXX

Bella Nolita #1

Mar. 4th, 2010 | 12:12 pm

I got my first issue through the post, yay! ^_^

It's a really cute mag and is vampired up to the max, haha! I think I would have loved this as a teenager back in my Anne Rice obsession days.

Here's the first page of the comic I've been creating with Fabrice Sapolsky for the mag...We wanted to do something a little different and stylish. GOTHIKU DESU! haha :)

and lookie! It came with this cute box that you tie with a ribbon. So cool! I need to find something to put in it now.

Marvel: Girl Comics #3

Feb. 19th, 2010 | 12:42 pm

Recently I was lucky enough to do my first gig for the mighty, mighty Marvel...and it seems the solicitations are out!

I don't think it's humanly possible to tell you how excited I am to be in there alongside such amazing creators. (COLLEENCOOVER, KELLY SUE DECONNICK, ABBY DENSON, LEA HERNANDEZ, MARJORIE LIU,ANN NOCENTI, CARLA SPEED MCNEIL, MOLLY CRABAPPLE), and to see aJo Chen cover on there made me need to lie down. I LOVE Jo Chen's work, so to know that she's done a cover for a comic I'm a small part of made me melt! I drew a small and highly amusing story written by Abby Denson and will have Emily Warren joining me on colours - both are stupidly talented and I'm honoured to have had the chance to work with them. ^_^ I hope you get a chance to pick it up!

Hope to see you there ^_^

A question...

Jan. 13th, 2010 | 12:19 pm

How many people here on LJ also follow my blog at emmavieceli.com?
I never know if I should cross post here as I know it can be dull reading the same thing twice, haha.

Here's a link to be able to pull my blog through onto your LJ in case you've missed it before:
Add me!

LJ is where I will write more personal things (though I know I'm a bit lax these days!), but most art-related and work update posts will happen over on the blog.
I did try crossposting DH updates and bits here for a little while, but I know I was hitting a lot of the same people twice, so I think from now on, the feed will be your best bet if you do want to keep up with my work related bits here on LJ ^_^
